What it does
Trovu is a web-search routing tool using curated and personal shortcuts. Its privacy documentation says shortcut queries are processed in the browser rather than sent to the Trovu server.
Trovu does not build a result index. It turns a shortcut and arguments into a destination search URL, allowing a user to search a chosen engine or website from one command-style box. Personal namespaces can customize those routes.
The privacy boundary is precise: Trovu says the query is parsed in the browser and is not sent to its own server. The destination engine still receives the query after redirection and applies its own policy. Choose a privacy-focused destination when that is the goal; a private routing step does not make every searchable website private.
Strengths
- Query parsing is documented as happening in the browser.
- Personal shortcuts and namespaces support customized search routing.
- The project publishes source under AGPL-3.0.
Watch out for
- The selected destination receives the query and applies its own data-handling policy.
Best for
- People who want one customizable entry point for their chosen search services
