What it does
Trunk Archive licenses work by represented image makers, including fashion, beauty, celebrity and interiors photography. Artist portfolios and themed collections provide a starting point, with complimentary image research available for a brief.
Search by artist, keyword or image number, or explore a featured portfolio such as Herb Ritts or Helmut Newton. For a broader brief, the Research form asks for your contact details and a research description. The team can help identify images and discuss a visual direction.
Licensing uses a registered account, and the fee and permitted use are set out in the invoice. Registration asks for company, industry and address details. Include the planned placement and treatment in the discussion: the standard terms require permission for cropping, rotation, composites and other alterations unless the invoice already allows them.
Credit normally follows the image’s listed artist and Trunk Archive credit line. Client use must remain within the same agreed scope, and extending a campaign to a new medium or territory may require another licence.
Strengths
- Artist portfolios support a brief built around a particular photographic style.
- Complimentary research accepts a written brief and contact details.
Watch out for
- Cropping and other alterations need explicit permission unless included in the invoice.
- Licences are limited to the agreed placement, period, territory and other stated uses.
Best for
- Art directors licensing fashion, celebrity or interiors archive photography
