What it does

OmniPage converts scanned and image-based documents using OCR, ICR, and barcode recognition. Its document processing also includes PDF compression and automated conversion workflows.

On the Windows Ultimate desktop edition, right-click an image and choose Convert Now Wizard, select text or image output and a destination, then convert. Presets make one output per input, while the wizard can combine files; single-image formats instead create numbered images. Language, preprocessing and layout settings control recognition. Export options can retain folder structure or split by page, source file or blank separators. Scanner-input workflows use another route. The Capture SDK and Server API are separate developer products, rather than features included with every desktop licence.

Strengths

  • Combines several recognition methods with document conversion.

Watch out for

  • Desktop, SDK and Server editions have different platforms and entitlements; scanner workflows are excluded from shortcut conversion.

Best for

  • Digitizing scan-heavy business document workflows
