What it does

TurboCAD is a Windows and Mac CAD family with 2D drafting and edition-dependent 3D tools. Its editions differ in solid modelling, construction history, sheet metal and architectural drawing functions. Choose a perpetual licence or a one- or three-year term; a 15-day trial is available by email.

Windows edition Tool scope
Designer 2D drafting
Deluxe Adds entry-level 3D
Professional Includes ACIS solid modelling
Platinum Adds the listed construction-history and sheet-metal tools

Mac has its own comparison: ACIS begins at Deluxe and Part Tree at Pro. Every edition opens and saves DWG/DXF.

The Windows Platinum Imprint guide describes a useful detail operation. Put a closed 2D profile on a facet of a solid, activate Imprint and select that facet. Choose Auto Detect, select the profile, then pull outward to add volume or push inward to remove it. Shift selects additional profiles; Inspector Height provides a typed depth instead of dragging.

Top and bottom edge options add fillets or chamfers with separate radii. Selection Info later edits the imprint's height, direction and edge treatments. The profile must sit on a solid face: a surface object is not a valid target. This procedure is documented in the Windows 2024 guide.

Perpetual licences keep the purchased version, with optional upgrades. One- or three-year terms include updates while active. Retail licences are personal and tied to one machine; enterprise seats belong to the company. A 15-day trial is available by email.

Strengths

  • Imprint combines profile selection, depth and edge treatment in one solid-editing task.
  • Perpetual and term licences offer different update and ownership arrangements.

Watch out for

  • Designer does not provide the 3D modelling tools of higher editions.
  • The documented Imprint task requires Platinum and a closed profile on a solid facet.

Best for

  • CAD details formed by adding or cutting profile volumes
  • Drafting teams comparing edition-specific mechanical and architectural tools
