What it does
Freda reads DRM-free ebooks on Windows and Android, with adjustable display settings, text-to-speech and file connections to several storage services.
Use a book’s DRM-free EPUB or another supported format, then adjust fonts and colours for the reader. Freda’s dyslexia-oriented settings include OpenDyslexic. Basic reading is free, but some features are restricted.
The file connections include OneDrive, Dropbox, a Synology NAS and a calibre library. Text-to-speech uses voices installed on the device, so the app’s language support depends partly on that setup.
Strengths
- Configurable fonts and reading colours
- Text-to-speech with installed voices
Watch out for
- Supported EPUB reading is DRM-free
- Some features are restricted in the free edition
