What it does
Twilio SendGrid provides application email delivery through an API or SMTP, dynamic templates, event reporting and suppression management. The product family also includes marketing campaigns; its Email API packages have a time-limited free trial and paid volume-based subscriptions.
Choose the unsubscribe model before connecting SendGrid to a newsletter or notification system. Advanced Suppression Management lets recipients leave a particular message group or opt out globally, with a hosted preferences page. Subscription Tracking instead offers an all-or-nothing unsubscribe. The documentation warns that this global option can also stop non-promotional messages such as password resets.
A service can separate its product bulletin from account notifications using message groups. Attempts to send to suppressed addresses still consume credits, even though those messages are not delivered. The API trial permits 100 emails a day for 60 days, with no credit card required at signup. Continuing service is priced by monthly volume and features, and additional activity-history capacity or overages can affect the bill.
Strengths
- Unsubscribe groups let recipients leave selected message types
- API and SMTP access support application delivery
Watch out for
- Subscription Tracking applies a global opt-out that can block account messages too
- Attempts to send to suppressed addresses still consume credits
Best for
- Teams integrating application email with explicit recipient preference groups
