What it does
TXM analyzes text corpora through word lists, concordances, statistical comparisons and metadata-based partitions.
TXM offers Windows, Mac and Linux desktop work alongside a separate web portal. Begin with plain text or a copied passage, then inspect its word list and concordances. Metadata can divide a collection by author or date so a vocabulary comparison reflects the intended groups. Richer XML or TEI input preserves additional structure when the research needs it. Tables export as CSV and graphs as images. Optional TreeTagger integration requires a separate installation for licensing reasons.
Strengths
- Plain-text through structured XML/TEI import
- Metadata-based subcorpora and partitions
Watch out for
- TreeTagger must be installed separately
Best for
- Comparing vocabulary across an organized corpus
