What it does

Type-Ø-Tones publishes fonts by several designers, including text systems, display designs and variable families. The site also presents custom work, design notes and use-specific licensing.

Type-Ø-Tones includes more than one kind of typographic toolkit. Harri has related sans and text designs, Brise separates text and display roles, and ZooLogic supplies pictorial forms. The catalog identifies each designer and also links custom work and design notes.

When buying, use the licence-owner field in the cart if the font is for a client. Desktop, Webfont, ePub, App and Server options can be combined, and existing purchases can be expanded from the order history. Webfonts are self-hosted and supplied in WOFF, WOFF2 and EOT formats. After payment, the fonts are available immediately and through an emailed download link. Font-file modification and conversion require permission, and products made from the alphabet itself, such as stencils or adhesive letters, need separate coverage.

Strengths

  • Includes text, display, variable and pictorial designs.
  • Publishes custom work and identifies individual designers.

Watch out for

  • Font-file modification and conversion are restricted.
  • Alphabet-derived products require separate licensing.

Best for

  • Editorial and poster projects needing both text and display fonts.
  • Designers licensing fonts for a named client.
