What it does

Type Network brings together fonts from independent foundries and offers custom typography services. It sells licences for desktop, web, apps, publishing and server use. A 30-day hosted webfont trial is available, with project settings managed through an account.

For the hosted webfont trial, create a web project, enter its name and domains, then add the selected fonts. Type Network supplies code that references its hosted files. The trial lasts 30 days and does not provide downloadable font files.

Self-hosted purchases instead supply WOFF, WOFF2 and EOT files. Both web routes use the chosen pageview allowance; several domains can share that allowance. Web licences commonly renew annually, with longer arrangements available. Desktop purchases deliver OTF files, while app and ebook delivery uses TTF.

Foundries retain their own licence agreements, so an order containing several foundries can involve several EULAs. Adobe Originals, for example, has a Canva restriction. Apps and server-based font use require their own coverage rather than a desktop licence.

Strengths

  • Combines fonts from several foundries in one catalog.
  • Offers retail selection and typographic services.

Watch out for

  • Some foundries have specific usage exceptions.
  • Desktop licensing does not cover app or server use.

Best for

  • Businesses comparing several type foundries.
  • Teams planning a broader typography system.
