What it does

TypeTogether sells retail font families and creates custom typefaces, with separate desktop, web and app licensing. Desktop files come as OTF and TTF, while self-hosted web fonts use WOFF2. Free testing fonts are for internal evaluation; commercial production needs a suitable licence.

TypeTogether separates font selection from the way the files will be used. Desktop licensing begins with one user and covers creating print and digital artwork. Web licences are perpetual, traffic-based and supply WOFF2 files for self-hosting. The standard app option covers read-only embedding in one application, with a stated limit of 25,000 annual syncs.

Standard Testing fonts have a limited character set. Premier Testing provides full character sets for approved Premier users. Both are temporary evaluation routes for concepts, mockups, pitches and internal presentations, including private website tests. Neither permits production or public use.

Editable software, commercial templates, broadcasting and merchandising are among the uses that have separate arrangements. Start with a family’s specimen, then choose the licence that covers the actual delivery format.

Strengths

  • Documents internal testing and educational routes.
  • Separates common and specialist font uses.

Watch out for

  • Testing fonts cannot be used in production or public projects.
  • Editable embedding, commercial templates and other specialist uses need additional arrangements.

Best for

  • Editorial and brand teams planning multiple media.
  • Projects evaluating fonts before commercial licensing.
