What it does

TypeType designs retail font families, custom typefaces and adaptations of existing fonts. Its catalog includes free fonts for finished projects as well as evaluation versions of commercial families.

The Free Fonts page mixes two different offers. Designs marked Free font, such as Bender and Ardeco, can be used in personal and commercial work. Items marked Trial font are for testing only, including client mockups, and cannot appear in a finished project. The trials retain the commercial fonts’ character sets, kerning and OpenType features.

To request a trial, choose the family on the Trial Fonts form and enter your email; a project description is optional. For a production purchase, select the actual uses separately. A Desktop licence covers design work but only logo mockups: a published brand mark needs the Logo licence. Web and app licences have annual and perpetual options, while desktop and logo licences are perpetual.

Strengths

  • Includes free production fonts alongside the commercial catalog.
  • Trial files retain the full characters and typographic features.
  • Offers modifications to existing families and bespoke type design.

Watch out for

  • Trial fonts cannot be used in finished personal or commercial projects.
  • A published logo needs a separate Logo licence.

Best for

  • Brands comparing retail and bespoke typography.
  • Product teams planning several media uses.
