What it does
The National Library of Medicine's UCUM-LHC demo validates unit expressions and converts compatible UCUM units. It includes syntax guidance and specialist molecular-weight or valence inputs.
For numeric conversion, use compatible units and provide molecular weight or charge/valence when the quantity needs it. UCUM codes are case-sensitive, disallow spaces and require explicit multiplication; parentheses can change division.
CSV batch validation is a separate workflow: supply comma-delimited input with headers, choose the expression column and save a copy with expression, result and notes columns. It validates coded units without numerically converting every CSV value. The page identifies a library demonstration and calls for accuracy checks before relying on conversion results.
Strengths
- Combines coded-unit validation with conversion and syntax guidance.
Best for
- Checking measurement units used in structured scientific data
