What it does
UI-Patterns.com is a reference library for recurring interface-design problems. Its categories include input, onboarding, navigation, data handling and social interactions, alongside persuasive-design material.
Search for a pattern or open a category such as Getting input, Onboarding or Navigation. An entry is organized into Problem summary, Usage, Solution and Rationale, followed by examples and related patterns.
The Accordion Menu entry, for instance, describes a two-level navigation structure where opening one panel closes the others. Its usage notes recommend fewer than ten main sections. Those conditions make it easier to compare the pattern with alternatives such as dropdown menus.
The online pattern articles are free and can be read without an account. An optional paid UI Patterns deck collects 60 patterns for workshop use. The digital version contains a PDF and separate JPEG cards that can be placed in whiteboards or presentations; a printed-and-digital package is also available. Digital purchases are delivered by email and can be retrieved through the shop account.
Strengths
- Entries separate the problem, suggested use and rationale.
- The companion digital cards work in software that accepts inserted images.
Best for
- Designers comparing approaches to a recurring interface problem
