What it does
Umami combines website traffic, campaign, event and conversion reporting. It offers cloud access and a self-hosted application, with reports for journeys, funnels, retention and revenue.
Umami offers hosted website analytics and an MIT-licensed application you can run yourself. Both routes collect pageviews and custom events; the hosted plans differ in volume, retention and team features.
| Cloud plan | Included monthly events | Sites and users | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hobby, free | 100,000 | One site | Six months |
| Pro | One million | 20 sites, ten team members | Two years |
| Business | Ten million | Unlimited sites and team members | Five years |
Paid plans have a 14-day trial and charge for events above their included allowance. Pro adds API access and connections for AI assistants; Business adds session replay, heatmaps and streaming data access, with its own replay allowance.
Cloud registration accepts Google, GitHub or an email and password. Self-hosting instead requires your own installation with Node.js and PostgreSQL, or the supplied Docker route. The setup creates a local administrator account. That option lets a technical team operate its own analytics, while also leaving database care, deployment and updates with the team.
For an event report, decide what an event means before sending it. A completed purchase and a checkout-button click should have different names so that later conversion analysis does not confuse intent with a finished order.
Strengths
- Traffic and event reports sit alongside funnels and journeys.
- The MIT-licensed repository supports self-hosting.
Watch out for
- The free Cloud plan is limited to one site and six months of history.
- Running the open-source application yourself requires maintaining its server and PostgreSQL database.
Best for
- Teams combining website acquisition reports with product event analysis
