What it does
Unwrella creates UV coordinates and packs the resulting islands. It is available as the standalone Unwrella-IO application, 3ds Max and Maya plugins, and a Blender bridge that connects to an installed engine. Paid permanent licences cover the standalone and plug-in editions; the free Blender bridge needs paid Unwrella-IO for unwrapping.
Load a mesh through the plus icon, a double-click in the window or drag and drop. Unwrella-IO accepts DAE, FBX, glTF/GLB, OBJ, PLY and STL.
Open the Unwrap tab and choose a method for the geometry. Hard Surface targets angular forms, Organic suits smooth shapes with clean quad-based topology, and Mosaic addresses irregular triangulated surfaces such as scans. Select a separate empty target UV channel to keep an existing layout. Press Unwrap to generate and pack the UVs using settings from both the Unwrap and Pack tabs, then inspect the viewport result.
The floppy-disk icon opens export options. Choose the location and format, then Save. Ctrl + Shift + S writes to the input directory with an incrementing suffix. OBJ exports only channel 0; Unwrella-IO's PLY and STL exports do not retain UV data.
| Permanent licence | One artist | Five seats |
|---|---|---|
| Unwrella-IO standalone | EUR 199 | EUR 799 |
| 3ds Max or Maya plugin | EUR 149 | EUR 596 |
Existing plugin owners can add Unwrella-IO for EUR 99 while keeping the old licence. The standalone demo disables export, and plugin demos do not save UV results. The free UnwrellaConnect extension needs paid Unwrella-IO for unwrapping; its demo cannot drive the bridge.
Strengths
- Hard Surface, Organic and Mosaic address different topology patterns.
- One Unwrap operation generates coordinates and packs their islands.
Watch out for
- Standalone demo results cannot be exported.
- The free Blender bridge does not include a free unwrapping engine.
Best for
- Artists creating UV layouts for scanned or modelled props
- Studios choosing standalone or integrated UV creation
