What it does

UptimeRobot is a hosted availability-monitoring service. A monitor checks a URL, IP address, or other configured target and records whether it responds as expected. The current setup guide lists HTTP(S), keyword, ping, port, heartbeat, DNS, API, and UDP monitor types. Its dashboards and notifications help detect an outage; they do not diagnose or repair the underlying application.

Set up a check for a public endpoint by creating a monitor, choosing the type, and supplying the URL or address and expected behavior. An HTTP check can detect that a site stops responding; a keyword monitor can also look for text that should be present in the page. For scheduled jobs, a heartbeat monitor checks whether the job reports in on time. Pick the monitor that matches the failure mode instead of treating every service as a simple page request.

The setup flow requires a UptimeRobot account. Its pricing page lists a Free plan and paid tiers; paid plans add shorter check intervals and more monitors, among other allowances. An alert is only a signal to investigate, so connect a notification channel your team actually watches and pair uptime checks with logs or traces when you need to find the cause.

Strengths

  • The setup guide lists multiple check types, including HTTP(S), keyword, ping, port, heartbeat, DNS, API, and UDP.
  • The monitor type can match a specific failure mode such as missing page text or a missed heartbeat.
  • The pricing page separates a no-cost plan from paid plans with additional monitoring capacity.
  • The Free plan lists 50 monitors and a five-minute monitoring interval.

Watch out for

  • A failed check detects availability symptoms but does not identify or fix the root cause.
  • A monitor must be configured with the right target and expected response.
  • The Free plan's five-minute interval is slower than the shorter checks listed on paid tiers.

Best for

  • Receiving alerts when public websites or APIs stop responding
  • Checking scheduled jobs through heartbeat reports
