What it does
Vellum imports a manuscript, applies book styles, previews device layouts, and generates ebook and print files. It provides EPUB outputs and a PDF print edition on Mac.
Import a DOCX manuscript, choose styles and trim size, inspect ebook/print previews, then generate editions from one project. Reimporting a revised Word file replaces previously imported content while keeping front/back matter added in Vellum. Ebooks includes ebook generation; Press also permits print editions, including PDF/X-1a. Building and previewing are free, but generation needs the one-time purchase. Software updates are included, although future optional functionality may cost extra. The licence belongs to an individual, and the application requires Mac with macOS 13 or newer.
Strengths
- Keeps ebook and print editions connected to one manuscript project.
Watch out for
- File generation requires a purchase, and the application is Mac-only.
Best for
- Authors formatting a manuscript for ebook and print distribution
