What it does
veraPDF is a file-format validator covering PDF/A and PDF/UA conformance levels. It is designed for digital preservation and supported by a PDF-industry consortium.
Choose the conformance profile deliberately, run the PDF or batch and inspect the failed-rule report. Automatic selection follows XMP claims, and missing or invalid claims default to PDF/A-1b unless overridden. A file claiming standards based on different PDF versions may leave one claim unchecked; an explicit profile checks only that target. Separate log output from structured reports when scripting. Validation evaluates conformance rules after creation, so it is a different job from converting or repairing a PDF.
Strengths
- Supports explicit profiles, machine-readable reports and folder/ZIP batch validation.
Best for
- Checking PDF conformance in preservation workflows
