What it does
Vermillion simulates oil painting on a canvas inside a VR studio. Pigment mixing, brush pressure and stroke direction affect the colour and painted surface.
Mix colours on the palette, then use a light brush touch for thicker paint or pressure to flatten it. A hand-steadying tool compensates for the absence of a physical canvas. Four layers can be reordered and merged when detail needs separation from wet paint below.
A browser beside the easel holds tutorials and reference images, with projection onto the canvas. Paint-by-numbers mode turns an image into adjustable outlines and a palette of two to twenty colours. Isolate one colour's outlines to work through the template in stages.
Up to four people can share a studio, exchange palettes and paint on each other's canvases. Finished work can leave as an image or a textured 3D canvas model.
Vermillion is a paid purchase for compatible Quest or PC VR equipment. Its Steam edition requires a headset and supports SteamVR and OpenXR.
