What it does
VidCoder is an open-source Windows transcoder using the HandBrake engine. It adds batch encoding, folder watching, and configurable rules for choosing tracks and destinations.
Custom pickers can select audio, subtitles, titles, and output locations consistently across a batch. A watched folder can then start the same workflow for new arrivals. VidCoder does not need a separate HandBrake installation, but its disc feature does not remove commercial-disc encryption. That boundary should be understood before planning a disc-to-file job.
VidCoder runs on 64-bit Windows 10 and 11. Installer and portable editions include their prerequisites; the ZIP edition needs the .NET 10 Desktop Runtime according to the page. Output containers are MP4 or MKV, with target bitrate, size or quality controls and short encoded previews. This is its own Windows interface around the HandBrake engine.
Strengths
- Adds automatic track selection and folder watching to batch encoding.
Watch out for
- Does not itself defeat DVD or Blu-ray encryption.
Best for
- Automated Windows encoding with consistent track choices
