What it does
libVLC is the modular playback engine and application interface behind VLC, intended for developers embedding media functions.
Use libVLC when playback must sit inside your own application's interface. The engine loads media plugins at runtime and offers playback, network browsing, filters and rendering functions behind a developer API.
Choose a binding for the application: VideoLAN lists C++, Apple Objective-C/Swift, Android Java/Kotlin and .NET routes, with community bindings for other languages. Sample projects show implementations such as Android mosaic views and thumbnail output. Check the selected binding and platform requirements before treating the broad engine feature list as a complete integration specification.
Strengths
- A modular engine can be embedded in custom applications.
