What it does

Vipps gives merchants ways to collect payments online, in person and through payment links. Its ePayment API supports Vipps, MobilePay and cards, with an Express flow for choosing shipping and sharing delivery details inside the wallet app. Businesses apply for a merchant agreement before integration; eligibility and fees depend on the merchant's market and chosen service.

Wallet checkout with delivery choices

Vipps suits merchants serving customers who use Vipps or MobilePay. The ePayment API supports online payments, payments when the customer is present, and one-time QR codes. With Express, shoppers choose a shipping option, consent to sharing contact and delivery details, and review the total including shipping inside the app.

From approval to capture

For a direct integration, register the business, obtain sales-unit API keys and start in the test environment. A payment request returns a link for the customer to approve the payment. Check the payment status before capturing an authorized amount. A return to your website is not guaranteed, so the browser redirect alone cannot confirm payment.

Direct merchant applications require a Danish, Finnish or Norwegian organization number, a business bank account in that country, and electronic identification to sign the agreement. Vipps app users in Sweden can pay eligible Nordic merchants, but that does not make Swedish business registration sufficient for this application route.

Match the market and service

Wallet payments normally use the currency of the merchant's sales-unit country. Express shipping defaults to that currency's country; developers can allow additional delivery countries.

For Norway's standard business tier, payment links cost 2.49% plus NOK 1 per transaction. Other payment products have their own rates, while Login starts at NOK 300 per month. Partner and individually agreed pricing can differ.

Vipps MobilePay announced the sale of its separate Checkout offering to Kustom in March 2026. The ePayment integration and Express flow are distinct choices when planning a new connection.

Strengths

  • Express collects shipping choices and consented delivery details within the wallet app
  • The ePayment API covers online, in-person and one-time QR payment flows
  • Documented status checks and capture requests give developers control over payment completion

Watch out for

  • Direct merchant applications require registration and a business bank account in Denmark, Finland or Norway
  • Standard wallet payments must use the sales-unit country's currency
  • Customers may not return to the checkout page after approving payment

Best for

  • Nordic merchants adding wallet payments to an online shop
  • Developers building an app-based checkout with shipping choices
  • Norwegian businesses collecting remote payments through links
