What it does
Vivliostyle typesets HTML and web publications with CSS. Its viewer displays the paginated result in a browser, and its command-line tool builds PDFs from source documents.
Preview HTML, Markdown or an EPUB in the browser, adjust the CSS, then use the CLI build command to write a named PDF. Paper size and output filename are explicit options; quick preview estimates page counts, so use the full build for final pagination. The current CLI guide requires Node.js 22.12.0 or later. Core, Viewer and CLI use AGPLv3, while Pub's own code uses Apache 2.0. The licence does not require publishing a book's HTML or CSS source; embedding or modifying the engine has separate obligations.
