What it does

WealthLab is Windows software for strategy development, portfolio backtesting and trading automation. Build rules visually, program custom logic or use its AI tools, then inspect historical results. A 14-day trial is available before choosing a subscription or lifetime license.

WealthLab's Building Blocks combine trading rules, conditions and qualifiers without requiring code. For custom calculations, its programming interface offers more control. MetaStrategies combine several strategies in one portfolio, while WealthData's historical index membership helps test the companies that actually belonged to an index at each point in time.

Before comparing results, set position sizing, commissions and slippage. The FAQ explains that competing trades can produce different results when simulated buying power is insufficient. It also distinguishes regular cash dividends from price adjustments, so check dividend handling separately. These settings matter as much as the entry rule.

Licenses and setup

The official plan page lists these prices:

Option Listed price Included access
Monthly $49.95/month Full platform and updates while subscribed
Annual $399.95/year Full platform with annual billing
Premium Annual $499.95/year Annual access plus WealthLab-developed extensions
Lifetime $1,595 once Permanent use of the licensed version and two years of maintenance

Lifetime maintenance can be extended for $149.95/year; the license continues after maintenance expires. The 14-day trial requires no credit card and is not a lasting free plan.

Download the Windows 10/11 installer. After purchase, sign in with the purchasing account and choose Help > Download My License. The FAQ allows a subscription on two computers. Mac use requires a Windows virtual machine; there is no native Mac installation in this offering.

Strengths

  • Supports visual rules as well as custom strategy code
  • Uses historical index membership in supported WealthData tests
  • Combines multiple strategies through MetaStrategies

Watch out for

  • Runs on Windows; Mac users need a Windows virtual machine
  • Regular cash dividends require separate backtest handling
  • Lifetime-license updates require maintenance after the included period

Best for

  • Windows users developing and comparing systematic trading strategies
  • Researchers testing several strategies within one portfolio
