What it does

Planet combines online and in-person payments with hotel and retail operating software. Hotels can link collection with their property-management system, while shops can connect payments with orders and store fulfillment. The service is configured through Planet’s sales team and uses a merchant agreement with charges for payment processing.

For a hotel, the implementation can also include a booking engine and networking services. For a retail chain, its order-management system can split an order between stores or a warehouse and support collection or delivery from those locations. Discuss the existing systems and business countries when requesting an implementation and fee quote.

Collect a booking or order payment

After Planet creates the portal account, follow the welcome email to set a password and multi-factor authentication, which requires an additional sign-in check. In Pay by Link, choose Create, select the organizational unit and enter a reference, amount and currency. Set the number of successful payments allowed and the link’s expiry, then choose automatic or manual capture.

The customer completes the hosted checkout. Open the link’s details and Linked payments to inspect its transactions. A reusable link can remain In Progress after a successful payment. Completed can mean that its payment limit was reached or that it expired after receiving at least one payment, so check the linked transactions when reconciling a booking.

Planet’s acquiring arrangement supports net settlement, with agreed charges deducted, or gross settlement. The account’s Terms of Business govern accepted card schemes and the commercial arrangement; confirm the settlement schedule and currencies for the location before activation.

Strengths

  • The retail order-management tools run on Android devices and in a web browser.
  • Users with access to several organizational units can change the portal’s reporting scope by group or region.
  • Multi-Currency Pricing can show shoppers prices in their home currency while browsing.

Watch out for

  • Choosing manual capture leaves a separate action before funds are collected.
  • A deactivated Pay by Link cannot be reactivated.
  • Planet’s acquiring guide says transaction fees also apply to payments authorized but never settled.

Best for

  • Hotels coordinating reservation, guest and payment records
  • Retail groups fulfilling online orders from store inventory
  • Businesses collecting several payments against one booking or order
