What it does

Web Awesome is a web-component library with themes, design tokens and controls for forms, navigation, layout and feedback. Its documentation distinguishes the core component set from features requiring Web Awesome Pro.

Web Awesome uses custom HTML elements such as wa-button, so its controls can work in projects with different frontend frameworks. For a quick start, add the default theme stylesheet and component loader to the page’s head. With npm, install @awesome.me/webawesome, import its styles and import only the components you need.

The local-install route needs an asset base path so components can find icons and other files. The docs distinguish the bundled dist-cdn files for direct browser use from dist files intended for a build tool. Utility styles and native-element styling can be included separately.

Core is free under MIT and can be installed without an account. Pro adds controls such as date pickers, a data grid and charts, along with design patterns, themes and the Figma kit. It charges per seat annually; people who only use the finished application do not need seats. Cancelling stops new Pro releases and updates, while the last version released during the subscription remains available for perpetual use. Pro components cannot be redistributed as a component collection or sold as mostly unchanged templates.

Strengths

  • Web components can serve interfaces built with different frontend frameworks.
  • Themes and tokens provide a shared customization layer.
  • Individual component imports and self-hosting are documented.

Watch out for

  • Some components and design resources require the Pro offering.
  • Pro requires seats for people designing or building with its assets.
  • Pro assets have redistribution restrictions.

Best for

  • Teams seeking framework-agnostic interface components
