Western Governors University

The competency-based model is the important format question at WGU. Examine how a selected program assesses progress and how its study requirements match your existing knowledge. A flexible model still needs a realistic routine. Compare the actual program and support rather than assuming a headline completion time will describe your own pace.

Progress is based on demonstrating mastery through assessments, with online resources and individual faculty support. Tuition is charged by six-month term rather than by completed course or competency unit. Moving faster therefore depends on proving the required skills, rather than simply watching the material sooner.
