What it does

NAVER Whale documents blocking for intrusive ad formats and an optional separate passphrase for synchronized browser data.

Whale's ad-blocking guide targets defined intrusive formats, including pop-ups, autoplaying video with sound and large fixed ads. It is a selective control, so it should not be read as a promise to remove every advertisement or tracker. The setting is available in its Clean Web controls.

A separate sync passphrase adds a decision beyond signing into the browser. NAVER says the passphrase is not sent to or stored on its servers, and the guide requires it on devices using the synchronized data. Forgetting it requires resetting the server-side sync data and signing devices in again. Keep that recovery consequence in mind before enabling the option.

Strengths

  • Published criteria for intrusive-ad blocking
  • Optional sync passphrase separate from browser sign-in

Watch out for

  • Recovering from a forgotten sync passphrase requires resetting synchronized server data

Best for

  • Whale users who want to configure ad filtering and sync access
