What it does

withoutBG removes image backgrounds in two ways. The Pro Model API is a managed REST service running in Frankfurt, Germany. It returns PNG cutouts or alpha mattes and gives new accounts 50 free credits, then charges per image. The open weight Apache-2.0 model runs on your own hardware through Python, Docker, a Local API or a macOS app. Both share the same API schema. A Refine editor fixes results with keep and remove brush strokes.

The Pro Model API uses the endpoint /v1.0/image-without-background. It also has alpha matte, base64 and car photo endpoints, plus a check for available credits. The open model is Apache-2.0 and free to use commercially. Run it with Docker using docker run -p 80:80 withoutbg/app:latest, or install the Python package with pip install withoutbg. A Local API listens on 127.0.0.1:8000 for tools such as GIMP and Blender. A macOS app for Apple Silicon does drag-and-drop batch processing, and a GIMP plugin attaches the matte as an unapplied layer mask. The Pro Model can be self-hosted for a one-off fee of 3,600 euros plus VAT, with an NVIDIA GPU and CUDA required. API input is capped at 20 MB and accepts JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC, TIFF, BMP and GIF. API images are processed in RAM and discarded after the response, with no customer uploads used for training, and logs hold metadata only. Refine runs cost 1 credit or one free demo image, and reported server-side p95 latency is about 1.95 seconds. The open model has no fixed latency SLA.
