What it does
Mathematica combines symbolic and numerical computation, visualization and mathematical programming in a notebook environment.
Mathematica keeps runnable Wolfram Language input, output, explanations and graphics in notebooks, with Windows, Mac, Linux and cloud routes. N[expression, n] requests n digits of numerical precision; the documentation distinguishes relative precision from absolute accuracy, especially near zero. It does not recover precision already missing from approximate input values. Retain exact quantities or appropriate input precision when a later calculation needs more digits. Notebook saving also has distinct routes: File Save updates the current notebook, including saving cloud-opened files back to the cloud. Programmatic NotebookSave can specify a file and overwrites an existing one without warning. Trial and paid product access have separate terms, and sharing/cloud access depends on the selected entitlement. Mathematica remains a programmable product distinct from Wolfram|Alpha.
