What it does
WooCommerce adds products, checkout and order management to a WordPress site. Its free core supports physical products, variations and downloads, while the merchant chooses hosting, payment processing and optional extensions. Store management uses the site's WordPress administration.
WooCommerce is the commerce layer for a WordPress site. Its free core includes products, orders and APIs without a platform subscription or revenue share. Hosting, payment processing and optional extensions have their own costs, so budget for the store you will operate rather than treating the download as the entire bill.
Match the product type to what you sell
A Simple product suits one item. Variable products give each size or colour its own price, stock and product code. Grouped products display several separately purchasable items together; Virtual and Downloadable options handle goods that do not follow the ordinary shipping process. A printed guide and its downloadable edition can therefore have different delivery settings.
To create a basic item, open Products > Add New in the site administration. Enter its name, leave Product data set to Simple product, add the regular price and select an image. Publish, then choose View product to inspect the page. Add the description, category and relevant inventory details before presenting it to customers.
Finish the store setup
After activation, Set up my store collects the business details. Optional feature recommendations can be skipped; some selected features connect to WordPress.com through Jetpack. The follow-up checklist covers products, payments, design, taxes and shipping.
WooCommerce > Settings > Payments lists providers available for the store country. Configure the chosen provider, check a test order and its emails, and use Launch your store when the shop is ready to leave Coming soon mode. Payment-provider registration is separate from the site's administrator access.
The core is licensed under GPL version 2 or later. That does not establish the licence or support terms of every extension. The owner remains responsible for the chosen hosting, updates and extension compatibility.
