What it does
Workaway connects travellers with host projects such as homestays, farms, community initiatives, boats and house or pet sitting. It also provides travel-buddy discovery, language partners and community events.
Pick a host type before choosing only by destination. A family homestay, a boat project and an environmental initiative involve different routines and expectations. The host directory and geographic map help turn that choice into a shortlist.
Use the project description and conversation with the host to establish what help is expected and what the arrangement includes. Workaway also has separate paths for solo travellers, couples and families, so investigate the one that matches your party. A language partner or travel buddy can be useful without being a host stay. Keep those social features distinct from agreeing to a project, and organise onward travel only around an arrangement that both sides have confirmed.
A paid Workawayer membership provides access to contact hosts. Workaway describes a usual exchange of several hours of help on five days a week for food and accommodation, with terms varying by host. Profiles require an adult member, and the traveller needs the appropriate visa; agreement with a host does not settle entry or work permission.
