What it does

Adaptive from Workday combines financial, workforce and operational planning in connected models. Finance teams can test assumptions in separate scenarios and compare them with a base plan before merging changes. The service has quoted packages and a 30-day trial, and can work with accounting systems outside Workday.

Adaptive from Workday brings financial, workforce and operating plans into a connected model. A hospitality operator can model location sales and occupancy, while a manufacturer can work with production, labour and material costs. Those operating inputs provide the drivers behind the financial outlook. Reports, dashboards and OfficeConnect help finance explain the relationship between a changed assumption and the resulting plan.

Trying a separate scenario

With Create Scenarios permission, choose Scenarios > Add New. Select the base plan version, name the scenario and choose Create. It begins with the base data; changes made in its sheets stay separate from the working version. You can compare the results in reports and charts, and share the scenario with collaborators.

The base cannot be actuals, a virtual version or a version with Calculate Formulas Values enabled. When an authorized user merges the scenario, its changes update the base and the separate scenario is deleted. For example, a finance team could compare a different staffing assumption before incorporating it into the shared plan.

Trial and package scope

Workday offers a 30-day trial with guided activities, reports and dashboards. Continued use is paid, with pricing determined through a quote. Users sign in with a username or email and password, subject to their organization's access settings.

The Adaptive planning package includes unlimited plan versions and scenarios. Close and Consolidation is a separate quoted package combining planning with the closing process. Ask which package covers the work you need, along with user access and implementation.

Adaptive can connect to other accounting and business systems; it does not require the rest of the Workday suite. That makes it relevant to finance teams improving planning while retaining their existing general ledger.
