What it does

Worldpay offers payment acceptance, fraud tools, transaction routing and embedded payments for businesses and software platforms. Smaller merchants can use payment links without an online shop, while an existing store can connect through plugins or an API. Its UK ecommerce packages publish transaction rates, with different options for merchants with and without a trading website.

Worldpay separates its services for smaller merchants, enterprises and software platforms. A shop replacing its checkout and a software company adding payments should start in different parts of the site.

For smaller UK businesses, the ecommerce offer has two pay-as-you-go packages:

UK package Visa and Mastercard consumer cards Commercial cards and American Express
Essential, without an ecommerce website 1.5% + £0.20 2.9% + £0.20
Full, for a live trading ecommerce website 1.3% + £0.20 2.9% + £0.20

Neither package has a setup or monthly fee. Other charges can apply. Full adds website integration through an API or plugins for stores such as WooCommerce and Shopify. These are UK package rates, not a worldwide tariff.

Payment Links+ works without a shop website. Once Worldpay has approved the ecommerce account, create a link in Worldpay Dashboard, add the business's branding and share it by email, message or QR code. The customer pays through the link without opening a Worldpay account, and the merchant can check its payment status in the Dashboard. The UK product includes next-business-day settlement.

For a storefront integration, Worldpay also offers a hosted checkout and components that let a developer adjust the payment interface. Recurring payments use its tokenization and subscription integration rather than a customer simply returning to the same payment link.

Strengths

  • Has separate merchant and software-platform offerings
  • Payment Links+ can collect payments without a shop website or a customer account
  • Store plugins and an API provide alternatives to a hosted checkout

Watch out for

  • The Full UK package requires a live trading ecommerce website
  • Payment Links+ requires approval of a Worldpay ecommerce account

Best for

  • UK merchants choosing between payment links and an integrated online shop
  • Platforms scoping embedded payment acceptance
