UW-Madison's Writer's Handbook provides reference material on academic writing, professional writing and the writing process.
Choose the relevant section and compare its advice with your assignment. The handbook explicitly notes that instructors' expectations vary. That makes the guide a support for understanding a task, rather than a universal template for every paper.
The handbook allows noncommercial adaptation if you credit the UW-Madison Writing Center and use the same licence terms.
