What it does

Xfrog offers ready-made plant collections and software for building organic forms. The model libraries include native application files plus OBJ, FBX and Alembic options. Paid collections sit alongside free sample species, while the modeller uses components for branches, curved stems and repeated shapes.

The modelling components have distinct jobs. Branch creates branching structures; Hydra arranges objects in a circle; Curvature forms curved splines for leaves or twigs. Tropism bends spline-based forms toward a direction or position, and Variation mixes different objects within a repeated structure. Parameters such as growth and branch count can be animated.

For ready-made vegetation, XFROG WORLD is listed at US$599. Regional libraries and individual plant collections are separate catalogue choices. The World package offers several application-specific deliveries as well as OBJ, FBX and Alembic, so it is not limited to users of the Xfrog modeller.

The free Oleander sample contains six plant variations representing different ages and seasons. Its linked Xfrog listing on CGTrader is labelled Royalty Free License (no AI) and lists the available files separately, including Blender, Maya, 3ds Max, Unreal Engine and exchange formats. That licence label belongs to the sample, not automatically to every Xfrog purchase.

A 30-day modeller trial is offered for noncommercial use. The software page mixes legacy compatibility text and several price offers, so current host-version support and the applicable modeller purchase price need confirmation before purchase.

Strengths

  • Component parameters can animate growth and changes in plant structure.
  • Free species samples allow inspection of actual library file deliveries.

Watch out for

  • The modeller trial is limited to noncommercial use.

Best for

  • Artists constructing procedural organic shapes
  • Scene builders sourcing plant species in existing 3D formats
