What it does

Yorkshire Building Society’s app gives customers access to savings and mortgage accounts. Setup uses the customer number and a text verification code. Joint holders can each use their own login and device, while each individual is limited to one active app device.

Getting an existing account into the app

An account opened online already has online-service registration. Branch or postal customers register first, using a YBS account number and the email address or phone number held on the account. Online registration is available from age 16.

Download the app, enter the customer number from a YBS letter or email, and complete the text-code check. An email reminder is available for a misplaced customer number. The app requires iOS 16 or later, or Android 10 or later.

Each customer uses one device at a time. Joint holders can register their own devices with separate credentials.

Moving savings out

Faster Payments has no charge and normally arrives by the end of the following day, although additional checks can delay it. The published online maximum is £250,000 for one transaction. The account’s terms determine whether online withdrawal is available and whether notice or other restrictions apply.

CHAPS costs £23.50 and is unavailable online. YBS limits this service to specified purposes, including transfers to your own account, HMRC or a solicitor handling a property transaction. Requests received before noon on a working day normally arrive that day.

Once a Faster Payment has been sent, it cannot be stopped. Review the recipient details before confirming a withdrawal.
