What it does
Yggdrasil is an experimental userspace router providing encrypted IPv6 connectivity between participating nodes over existing IP networks.
Yggdrasil connects participating nodes with an IPv6 overlay even when their underlying peer connections use IPv4. Its site describes peerings across local networks, point-to-point links and the internet, which makes it useful for networking experiments spanning different connection types. The project explicitly remains alpha-stage and warns of future breaking changes. Start with a small test network and treat compatibility across updates as part of the experiment; it is not a ready-made consumer exit service.
Strengths
- IPv6 overlay over IPv4 or IPv6 peer connections
- Ad-hoc peer-network design
Watch out for
- Alpha-stage project with possible breaking changes
Best for
- Technical users testing encrypted overlay-network designs
