What it does
Yoroi is a Cardano wallet available as a browser extension and mobile app. It manages ADA, supported tokens and wallet history without downloading a full blockchain. The software is open source, and the recovery phrase is needed to restore a wallet when its local password or installation is lost.
Yoroi keeps the local setup lighter than a full Cardano node. Its mobile app offers multiple wallets, transaction history, portfolio views and Cardano NFT management. Delegation and governance features are also available, while buying and selling use integrated partners.
Receive and review a payment
Create or restore the intended wallet before copying an address. Use Receive to obtain its receiving address or shareable QR code, then give that address to the sender. Use the wallet's transaction history to review the resulting payment. The wallet can operate without waiting for a full-chain download.
For a transfer out, Send is the starting point. Check the recipient and asset before authorizing the transaction. A wallet password is used to authorize transactions in the extension and mobile app; hardware-wallet signing follows the connected device's process.
Password and recovery phrase
The password protects the local private-key data. It is not a recovery phrase, and Yoroi cannot retrieve a forgotten password. With the saved recovery phrase, the wallet can be restored and a new password chosen. Without the needed recovery material, reinstalling the app does not restore access by itself.
The extension repository provides Chrome and Edge downloads; mobile versions are available on iOS and Android. The mobile repository documents network selection for Mainnet, Preprod and Preview. Check the selected network when using a test wallet, since test assets and mainnet assets are separate.
Yoroi's software is free to use under its open-source licenses. Cardano transaction fees and any integrated provider charges remain separate. A wallet setup is local key management, rather than registration for a hosted custodial account.
Strengths
- The lightweight wallet avoids downloading the full Cardano blockchain.
- Mobile views combine multiple wallets, transaction history and portfolio information.
Watch out for
- A forgotten local password needs the recovery phrase to restore access.
- Mainnet and test networks are separate, so the selected network matters.
Best for
- Cardano users who want a browser or mobile wallet
- People reviewing ADA and Cardano-token activity without operating a full node
