What it does
ZeroTier creates virtual networks between devices, with a controller workflow for joining and authorizing network members.
ZeroTier's getting-started guide separates joining a network from permission to use it. A client can enter the network ID and still receive Access Denied until the controller authorizes that device. That is a useful boundary for a virtual-LAN setup. Begin with two devices and the network membership screen before adding more resources. The documented free Central offer covers twenty-five devices across all networks without a trial deadline or credit card, while larger deployments require a subscription; it is private networking rather than a supplied consumer exit-country service.
Strengths
- Explicit device authorization after joining
- Small-network free offer documented
Best for
- Teams connecting a defined group of devices as a virtual LAN
