What it does
feathericon includes SVG files, an SVG sprite, CSS, Sass and font files, with a Sketch document as its drawing source.
feathericon offers several ways to use the same generic vector artwork. A site using an icon font can copy the CSS and font directories, include the stylesheet and reference an icon by its class. A sprite-based site can instead copy the SVG sprite and select each symbol by its fragment identifier, with size and fill controlled in CSS.
The drawing source is a Sketch document, which makes the set useful when the supplied artwork needs a few coordinated additions. Add an artboard, give it a meaningful name, update the metadata and keywords, then rebuild the font, stylesheets and SVG outputs. FontCustom settings govern the generated font.
Using the ready-made files is simpler than maintaining the drawing pipeline. Custom builds require the Sketch source, Node tooling and the project's build dependencies. The MIT license permits adaptation and commercial use with the required notice retained.
Strengths
- One source project provides webfont, sprite and individual SVG outputs.
- The original Sketch artwork is available for modifications.
Watch out for
- Custom icon builds require the Sketch source and the project's build toolchain.
Best for
- Existing sites using icon fonts
- Designers adapting a Sketch-based icon set
