Max Hall

Editor, WebDir.SI

Max Hall edits WebDir.SI. He sets the standards every listing is checked against: what a tool really does, what it costs, where it falls short, and who should skip it.

He works in UI/UX development, so he looks at tools the way most people use them. He notices whether the pricing page hides the catch, whether sign-up gets in your way before you can try anything, and whether a menu still works on a phone. If a tool makes simple things hard, the listing says so.

He lives in Lisbon, at least between trips. He's been to 122 countries, and he'll tell you that watching people fight a ticket machine in a language they can't read taught him more about usability than any design book. It's the same question he asks of every site in the directory: does this make life easier, or just look like it does?

Off the clock he's gaming, adding to a restaurant list he'll never finish, or booking the next flight.
